Writing a Successful Cover Letter: A Step-by-Step Practical Workshop
A compelling cover letter is a central part of a job application and can be a real challenge for many students. It is often difficult to clearly identify strengths or to convincingly express one’s personal motivation for a position.
In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a cover letter for a specific application. They will learn how to present skills and experiences in a structured way, highlight strengths, and address job postings effectively. During guided writing sessions, the participants will actively work on a cover letter, reflect on common pitfalls such as uncertainty in self-presentation or balancing motivation with showcasing skills, and receive constructive peer feedback. This approach helps to overcome hesitation, build confidence in the writing process, and develop routines that will support future applications. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a finished, practical cover letter that can be used immediately and with the knowledge of how to present strengths confidently in future applications.
Participants will…
- create a cover letter that can be used directly for applications
- learn to express strengths, experiences, and motivation clearly and convincingly
- analyze job postings and address requirements effectively in the cover letter
- practice in guided writing sessions and receive feedback from peers
- recognize common pitfalls and learn strategies to avoid them
